Frequently Asked Questions
What does BTU mean for aircon?
BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures cooling capacity. A higher BTU means the aircon can cool a larger space. In Singapore, a typical bedroom (15–20 m²) usually needs 9,000–12,000 BTU (1–1.5 HP).
Why does Singapore need more BTUs than other countries?
Singapore's tropical climate means it's hot and humid year-round. We apply a 25% upward adjustment to standard BTU calculations to account for this.
What HP rating corresponds to my BTU result?
1 HP ≈ 9,000–10,000 BTU. So 12,000 BTU ≈ 1.5 HP, and 18,000 BTU ≈ 2 HP. HP (horsepower) is the common rating in Singapore.
Should I buy an inverter or non-inverter aircon?
Inverter aircons adjust their compressor speed to maintain temperature, using significantly less electricity. They cost more upfront but save money on bills — recommended for Singapore where you run aircon daily.
